Acts of Kindness

Learning to be givers shapes children’s values and provides the opportunity to develop kindness. Children who learn to be caring and kind feel good about themselves. During the month of February and in conjunction with Martin Luther King Day and Valentine’s Day, the children will participate in a “Kindness Catcher Project”. The project recognizes children who do random acts of kindness. Each kind act will be recorded on a heart and displayed on BUMNS hall bulletin board. Children learn from what they see. The goal of this project is reinforce being kind. The children will learn that no act of kindness is too small.

Teaching kindness begins with the youngest preschoolers. Practicing manners reminds children that a simple “thank you” can brighten someone’s day. Teaching children to recognize other people’s feelings introduces empathy. Teach children patience when they are frustrated. Patience goes hand in hand with kindness.
It is never too early to practice caring and kind behavior with children. Through these small gestures we can help make the world our children will inherit a little more kind.

Welcome 2019!

Happy New Year! I hope your holiday season was a time of relaxation and family fun. I am occasionally asked why fundraise at BUMNS? Fundraising helps distinguish our preschool from other schools in the area. Monies raised have built our playground, given us funds to add new educational tools to our Game Room and classes, installed a security system, painted classrooms, bought music instruments and KIM equipment. Fundraising helps support our school environment. Thank you for the continued generous support.
Please note the following information:

Holiday Happenings

December is the most exciting month of the year. It can be a most happy time at school and at home, if we plan ways to include the children in our preparations and celebration. During the Holiday season, structure and daily rituals are vital to the preschool child. Our own schedules are chock full of activities and often children get “lost” in our rush to prepare for the holidays. If a child’s routine remains the same, they will feel secure and grounded. It is challenging to implement structure at home when we are busy. Some of the best stabilizing traditions are little things that children can count on. Some examples are: family dinners, bedtime stories, or family game night.

Our routine at BUMNS will vary this week. The children will be busy practicing for our annual Holiday Show. The Holiday Show will be presented on Friday, December 14th at 9:30. The show rehearsal will be held on Thursday, December 13th at 9:30. Dana Sapp, BUMNS music teacher, will direct the children in a medley of Holiday songs. We encourage you to invite extended family to BUMNS Holiday show.

Thank you to families who donated clothing and toys to Berwyn United Methodist Church for their mission projects.

Registration for the 2019-2020 year is open to the public now. Encourage friends to visit our school.

If the weather is questionable, please check your email in the morning or call the T/E School Hotline, 610-240-1970. BUMNS will follow decisions made by T/E school district during inclement weather. If T/E is delayed for two hours, BUMNS will be delayed for one hour.

Welcome October!

The children adjusted well to their teachers, new friends and BUMNS school routine during September. They are enjoying adventures to Music, KIM and of course, the playground. Game Room is buzzing with activity. The Game Room’s soft academic environment gives the children an introduction to pre-reading and pre-math concepts. Thank you to the Game Room volunteers who assist teachers in the Game Room. There is a need for additional Game Room volunteers. If you are able to volunteer once a month please let the office know.
Our youngest 2’s are feeling secure and safe in school. Early tears have dried and the children have become accustomed their classrooms. As the year progresses, the 2’s will enjoy socializing that begins as parallel play.

October brings cooler weather, colorful leaves and exciting events at BUMNS. October is Fire Safety Awareness month. 5 Day classes will walk to the Berwyn Fire Station for a tour and a lesson on fire safety. The 3 & 4 Day children will have a visit from the Fire Company’s truck and firemen. The children learn that firefighters are helpful heroes. All classes will practice a fire drill at school.

Thank you for supporting BUMNS school fundraisers. The Rita’s Water Ice Celebrity Scoop was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed the warm sun and water ice. 15 % of the money spent at Rita’s on Wednesday will be donated to BUMNS. The Sports Day was fun for everyone!
BUMNS parents enjoyed an evening at AR Workshop in Malvern. 20% of proceeds from the evening at AR are being donated to BUMNS.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…” Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go

On March 1st and 2nd the BUMNS children celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The children wore pajamas to school and were served donut holes and hot chocolate during snack time. Dr. Seuss holds a special place in the hearts of many because he wrote with the joy, concern and passion a child carries. The teachers honored Dr. Seuss by reading favorite books he wrote. Children love the rhyming, plots and art in his books. For many of us, our first introduction to literature was through the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss.

It is wonderful to see the joy on BUMNS children when they are having fun. It would also be wonderful to capture their innocence forever. In light of recent tragic news, it is important to let your preschooler know they are loved and safe. Fred Rogers often told this story about when he was a boy and would see scary things on the news: “My mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers — so many caring people in this world.”

The 3, 4 & 5 Day children have been learning about our local community helpers. During the month of February the children donated pennies. $100 in pennies was collected. The money will be donated to the Easttown Police.

The 5 Day classes will celebrate their 100th day of school on Monday, March 5th. The children will count 100 objects, jump 100 times, and read 100 words. Pizza will be served.
On Wednesday, March 14th, the teachers will have an in-service day to prepare for conferences. Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 15th and Friday, March 16th. Parent-teacher conferences provide a means for communication between parents and teachers. Your child’s social/emotional, physical, and intellectual and language development has been evaluated by their teacher. The conference is designed to give you an insight into your child’s preschool progress. Sitting will be provided for children enrolled in BUMNS.
